vancouver wedding photographers – hyperfocus photography » wedding photography as unique as you are

Sim and Jonathan were married at the beautiful UBC Boathouse and wove both their unique family heritages together into their day to respect each of their backgrounds with thoughtful touches. Some of the unique touches were that she wore a beautiful pink wedding lehenga dress and they were married on the dock by the river with a floral arrangement that mimicked a modern wedding chuppah. Sim had her super cute niece and nephew walk down the aisle in front of her sister, (while their guests enjoyed the cuteness) and then Sim and her brother walk in to the wedding ceremony where Jonathan was waiting. After their ceremony, guests enjoyed a fantastic cocktail party on the dock, while we slipped away for some photos of just the two of them. When we returned, all their guests hung on to every thoughtful word that was spoken about them during the speeches and then they danced the night away…. and with friends, Jonathan enjoyed a few Cuban cigars as well.

Upon quick appearance, Kelsey and Andrew seem so different.

Kelsey is super chatty, Andrew is very quiet. She is really bubbly, he is reserved and stoic. When Kelsey enters a room, everyone notices, while Andrew seems happiest, if he just blends in nicely and goes with the flow. And while they seem so different, after we’ve spent quite a bit of time with them, it’s clear to us that they are a great match.  You simply see it when they are together and it’s in Andrew you see it most. He absolutely glows with joy when he is around Kelsey, he lights up, it’s amazing to see! Pure love between these two, it’s so lovely. I know that may sound cheesy, but it’s true (so because it’s true, it’s not cheesy, right?).

I love that because of what we do, we get to know couples so well, in such a short time. When we all feel comfortable hanging out, we can create the best photographs for our clients of who our couples truly are. We can then also capture their relationship together in a beautiful, natural collection of photos.

On their wedding day for their wedding reveal, we created a space for them to see each other for the first time privately and then had their wedding day photo session in the Olympic Village here in Vancouver.

Kelsey and Andrew were married at The Diamond Ballroom in the South Granville area of Vancouver. Kelsey’s father so very proudly walked her down the aisle to marry Andrew and they had a Japanese Buddhist wedding ceremony by Kelsey’s sensei, Reverend Tatsuya Aoki. They danced the night away with their best friends and family, and giggled a lot too during the games…especially the bum grabbing one! The grandparents thought it was hilarious! Gotta love that!

Since Christine and Moe came in from Calgary for their Vancouver engagement session, we only just met them for the first time minutes before we started photographing them! Of course we had chatted over the phone before meeting them in person, but it’s always so nice to meet face to face. We easily got a long and all felt comfortable together and most importantly- they trusted us.

Christine’s bubbly nature and infectious giggling was a joy to be around and it was very clear to see why Moe loves her so much!

Alecia and Ryan flew in from Chicago to get married specifically at Hatley Castle because, well, do you need to have a reason to get married at a castle by the sea?! 🙂  And also because the X-Men movies were filmed there, and Ryan is clearly a big fan! They had 12 guests who all flew in for their special and intimate wedding ceremony. Their pastor flew in from Texas just to marry them, since he’s known Ryan since he was a boy. Isn’t that thoughtful? It meant so much to Ryan and Alecia to have him marry them, as it’s such a beautiful connection to tie Ryan’s history into their ceremony and future together going forward.

After their cocktail party in the Italian gardens, we took some photos on the castle grounds and then headed off to the Victoria Distillers! Both Alecia and Ryan are keen bourbon drinkers, so they were excited to taste the locally made gins and whisky with a personalized tasting and tour at the distillery. They really went out of their way to give Alecia and Ryan such a lovely and special experience, which we are thankful for.

Victoria is my hometown, it’s also where Justin and I met years ago before we were married (we met underwater while scuba diving at the Breakwater!), so we always enjoy going home to photograph weddings in Victoria. wedding_album_vancouver_photography_01

I always get really excited when it’s time for our clients to come and pick up their wedding albums! I really, really do! I even consider it a bit of an event. 🙂
It’s so nice to reconnect, catch-up and of course present them with their album that we worked so hard on in our studio to be perfect and beautiful.
Justin and I consider our job completed when our clients have a real physical wedding album in their hands. Nothing beats an awesome art book in your hands of your day! And that collection of beautiful photographs showing the highlights is future proof, always accessible and great to cosy up with a cup of tea or glass of wine on the couch. It’s a great way to relive the day and also share with family and friends.
Here are Maria and Jon enjoying their wedding album when they came to pick it up.
